Today We Discovered Why We Made The Trip

We travel through the northern Rocky Mountains in British Columbia for 7 hours today.  Every turn was a new adventure.  The mountains are a true wilderness. The roads were good except there was very little guard railing.

There were some many bridges.  Rivers were always running along the highway.  The were much larger than we see at home.

This is Summit Lake.  I was hugh and very beautiful.  I was hard to believe that nothing was happening there because it is so isolated.

This is Muncho Lake.  The highway was actually the shoreline for miles and miles.  I was tensed for miles and miles.  The color of the water was extraordinary.

All along the Alaska Highway are warning signs to be cautious of wildlife.  I literally kept my camera in the hand hoping to see these wild creatures.  This is first one we saw.  We think it is a caribou.

I can't tell have excited we were to see the animals in the wild.  They own the wilderness.  We saw lots of Bison. We came up on a herd of wild horses right on the shoulder of the highway.  I didn't the picture in time. They were all colors and to healthy looking.  Then I saw a black bear, but I was too late to get its picture.

Last but not least we finally saw Bullwinkle.  He was not easy to find.

We ended the day at Watson Lake Yukon at the Sign Post Forest where we hung our own sign.  We spotted a sign placed there by a couple from Abbeville, SC.   It is a small world, not really because today proved just the opposite.

On the Alaska Highway Headed for Fort Nelson 6-27-13

This is the beginning of a 5 mile 10 degree decline after we had been climbing mountains for hours.

The decline ended on a long narrow bridge which so high  I could barely take the picture.  The photos do not tell the story but it took my breathe away. It was the Sikianni River.

Edmonton Alberta Canada - 6-25-13

It is raining today so we checked out the largest mall in North America.  This is an ice skating rink in the Mall.

These are pictures of an inside beach in the Mall.  Every once and a while waves would be generated.  It was amazing to see how many people swimming.

A pirateship in water was in the center of the Mall.  It was beautiful.  There was no way to see all the stores.

A young girl over heard John and I talking to each other.  The southern accent was familiar to her since she was from Alabama.  She doesn't see many people from the southern states and she reached out to us.  She has been here for 4 years for her job.  The truth is we haven't any license plates from the south since we left North Dakota.  But I will keep looking.

Calgary Alberta Canada

This is only picture we took in Calgary.  We were there during the torrential rains.  The flooding was so bad downtown Calgary was evacuated.  Major roads were closed and getting around was difficult.  Thankfully the campground was in a high area.  Roads to Banff and Lake Louise were washed out with mudslides so we didn't get to visit.  Besides all this someone tried to steal our bikes.  Needless to say our visit to the Calgary area was a wash but counted our blessings.   We felt a lot of compassion for the residents.

Missouri River in northern Montana

The beauty of the area could not be captured from the highway but I had to try.

Spring Creek Campground, Big Timber, Montana

The picture above is looking out the back of the 5th wheel.  It is so beautiful and restful here.

We will be yielding to John's history fetish as we go long the way.

Authentic teepee and a display of Indian clothes and soldier uniforms.

Monument on the grounds of where General George Armstrong Custer and his men died during the battle of Little Big Horn.

The memorial to the soldiers that died in that battle.

This is the horse cemetery of the horses that died in battle.

John and I loved the saloons in Medora, North Dakota

For those who have asked about Boone, this is the way he travels.

He took over my lavender pillow.  I had to get me a new one.

We were stuck in traffic and Boone was making friends out the window.

Pictures of wild horses and buffalo in the park

This buffalo came right to my window.  Boone didn't even bark because he was so close.
